During the few hours of visit granted to the incarcerated opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi and his wife Zahra Rahnavard with their daughters during the Norooz Hollidays (Iranian New Year), they spoke about prevalent poverty and people’s living conditions in the country.
They also spoke about international relations and voiced concern over the dangers and threats that the regional and trans-regional areas are facing.
According to reports published by Kalameh previously, in the early days of Iranian New Year, Mir Hossein Mousavi and his wife Rahnavard were granted visitation with their daughters. Following are not previously published details regarding their visit.
Two days prior to this visit, other members of Mousavi’s family were contacted and were told that Mousavi and his wife would be granted visitation with their daughters.
In these discussions, they emphasized that the meeting should take place somewhere outside of Tehran. The agents asked family members to choose a location outside of Tehran for this visit.
Finally, after several consultations about the meeting place, and given that Mousavi and his daughters do not own any place outside of Tehran, a home of a relative in northern Iran was chosen as the meeting place.
Mr. Mousavi and Mrs. Rahnavard’s daughters spent the New Year on the road to go to meet their parents.
At 12:30 PM, Mousavi and his wife arrived at the meeting location, under tight security and accompanied by number of security agents and cars, for the three and a half hour visit with their children.
During their visit, not only were the security agents were stationed all around the house, but they were also inside the house.
The presence of such a number of security agents around the house, from days before the scheduled meeting, made the residents of the village concerned and surprised.
The agents were spread all around and inside the house, and were constantly talking on their cell phones, even though this area is outside of cell phone service coverage.
Other than the special communication devices that the agent were carrying, the occupants of the house noticed that the agents were secretly taking pictures of them and of Mousavi and his wife Rahnavard.
After they voiced objection to the agents taking pictures, the agents denied doing so.
Mousavi’s daughters and Mousavi himself have always doubted the purpose of agents taking pictures of them. They are always concerned about the misuse and publication of pictures of the family.
During their stay, Mousavi took a stroll in the yard of the house accompanied by a large number of agents. This was a great opportunity for him and his children after being imprisoned at the Akhtar location in Tehran, being isolated, and away from his daughters for such long time.
Along with voicing great empathy with the other political prisoners and their families, Mousavi hopes that this new year will bring the freedom and release of all political prisoners.
Although limited, and despite the presence of many agents, Mousavi and his wife were able to discuss current issues with their daughters.
Following are the more important and significant points during these discussions:
A – Reaffirming with persistence on their previous positions on solutions and criticism of their unjustified and illegal detention.
Mrs. Rahnavard mentioning the Mulberry tree that Mr. Mousavi had planted in their yard years ago and now is a very strong tall tree, said, “We have told them we still stand on our previous positions and our ideology. All the issues still remains.
Even if you hang us from this tree and bury us under this tree, nothing will change, we are not afraid for we believe we have spoken the truth. If we had spoken anything but the truth we would have not been in prison now and would have been free.”
B – Mir Hossein Mousavi recommended reading the book “The Right to Heresy: Castellio Against Calvin”, by Stefan Zweig. He had always made reading recommendations to his daughters and he continued to do so after incarceration. Previously he had recommended reading News of a Kidnapping by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
C – During this visit, Mousavi’s main concern was the country’s economic problems, poverty and concerns for the people’s livelihood.
D – International relations and serious potential danger that the country faces from regional and trans-regional areas and solutions to these threats.
E – Mir Hossein, referring to the current political issues and the legitimacy, or illegitimacy, of those who are now in charge, said that ultimately the burden of seeking justice and the people’s civil rights is on the shoulders of the people themselves; The people who are not indebted to any group and seek real democracy and human rights, for they understand their own problems better than anyone or any power.
F – On the recent parliamentary election, Mousavi believes that even if the statistics on the voters’ participation given by the officials is accurate, or close to being accurate, the most important achievements of the past two years, until this election ,is that people have become informed and those who participated in the election did so with full knowledge of the political situation and their personal lives.
G– At the end of this visit, as they were going to transport Mousavi back to his Akhtar prison, in one of those special cars, while the car door was still open, Mousavi jokingly said, “If we had received the 100 Billion as Ayatollah Janati said we did, our situation would have been different now.”
It’s worth mentioning that before they left, the agent in charge said they had allocated 12 hours for this visit, eight of which was spent on the road.
