Shirollah Dargahi, the grandfather of imprisoned student activist Arash Sadeghi was arrested on Wednesday.
Wednesday night, around 8 PM agents went to the home of Arash Sadeghi’s elderly grandparents, arrested him and took him to an undisclosed location.
According to reports, while Mrs. Dargahi was in shock because of this nightly raid, the agents claimed they are taking her husband for questioning and will bring him back, but all indications are that this 80 year old grandfather has been placed under arrest.
Considering the age, and poor health of Mr. Dargahi, his family is very concerned for his well being. Also, Mrs. Dargahi is doing poorly as a result of the trauma and shock of this nightly raid. According to family, if her situation does not improve, she will have to be taken to hospital.
Arash’s grandfather had recently issued a letter to Arash’s interrogator which was widely covered by the opposition websites.
In this compassionate letter, he told the painful story of Arash’s arrest and the events thereafter, and the phone calls he received giving him false promises and claims.
He wrote, “Mr. interrogator, have you realized how all your claims about Arash’s guilt are more like a joke? A bitter joke…..
Mr. interrogator, what do you intend to do with Arash? Is the death of his mother and shattering and destroying of his family life not enough? His more than 30 months incarceration, most of which was in solitary confinement, are not enough?
His physical injuries during interrogation sessions, like broken ribs and shoulder, which were confirmed by the forensic investigation, are not enough?
During conversations you had with me after Arash’s arrest, you repeatedly indicated that you had Arash under constant surveillance all the time, and said you were aware of all of his contacts. Then, you probably know that Arash had no place to live after he was released.”
Arash Sadeghi is one of the post-presidential election of 2009 political prisoners who has paid a heavy cost and has suffered much hardship.
All the hardships, and the death of his mother after the security forces raided their home, have put him under severe and serious mental stress.
However, he has remained steadfast, and currently is on a hunger strike that he started 13 days ago in support of Hossein Ronaghi Maleki.
Allameh Tabatabai university student activist, Arash Sadeghi, a member of Mir Hossein Mousavi’s 2009 presidential campaign, was among many political prisoners who were arrested after the presidential election of 2009 events.
He was first arrested July 09, 2009, during the suppression of the post-presidential election protests. He was released after 50 days in solitary confinement.
His mother suffered a heart attack as a result of the trauma and shock she received during a 4:00 AM raid of her home for the purpose of arresting Arash. She died 4 days later in the hospital.
Arash’s latest arrest was on the morning of December 15, 2011 while visiting his mother’s grave site with his grandparents. He has been incarcerated in Ward 209 of Evin prison in solitary confinement since his last arrest.
